The Austin Family Reunion 2027

Cruise Dates
July 29th - August 2nd 2027
This is a 5-day, 4-night, cruise, departing on Thursday July 29th and returning on Monday August 2nd.
Cruise Line and Location
We will be cruising on the stunning Caribbean waters on the popular Carnival Cruise Line. In the previous letter, it was stated that we would be cruising on the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. However, after that information was sent out in December, some other family members sent out information, in January, announcing a cruise on the same cruise line and at the same time, in July 2027. I definitely didn’t intend for this to be a competition or create confusion, so I have adjusted our travel plans. We will travel on the Carnival Cruise Line and leave from Miami, FL. Leaving out of Miami, instead of Orlando will be much more convenient. We will only be 15 minutes from The Port Of Miami to board the ship.
Hotel and Transportation
As always for reunions, Embassy Suites is our hotel of choice. Our Host Hotel will be The Embassy Suites Miami International Airport, 3974 N.W. South River Drive, Miami, Florida 33142. Shuttle Transportation to the Port of Miami will be readily available. The hotel is only 15 minutes from the port and transportation, by shuttle, will be affordable. Please let me know if you will need transportation. Our Travel Agent, Jerome Davis, and myself, are ready to assist you with making hotel and all travel arrangements. Let me know if you will be arriving early and/or extending your stay in Miami.
Cruise Prices and Deposit
I am doing things the FAMILY WAY to make sure everyone will be able to afford this trip and no one will be priced out and unable to attend because it’s too expensive. The cost of this cruise is an unbelievably low Group Rate of $543.00 per person. Rooms are based on double occupancy. Family, you won’t believe all you have to pay is a $25 deposit, per person, to reserve your room, if booked by April 10, 2026. Yes! Only a $25 deposit per person will reserve your room! I am doing things the FAMILY WAY to make this trip affordable for all family members and our friends who are like family.

Low monthly payments of only $47 per month will pay your cruise in full before we sail. Everyone is encouraged to take advantage of the payment plan. Remember, if you start early, you’ll be able to sail stress free. Your final payment will not be due until next year, April 15, 2027. This gives you plenty of time to make payments.

Happy Veteran's Day!!!
On November 11th Americans honored those brave men and women who have served in the military. It all started on November 11, 1918 when an Armistice between the Allied forces of World War I and Germany went into effect. In November 1919, President Woodrow Wilson declared November 11th Armistice Day in recognition of the end of the War that was to end all Wars. In 1938, the U.S. Congress passed an Act declaring November 11, Armistice Day, a national holiday. In 1954, after World War II, President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed and the Congress approved changing the name Armistice Day to Veterans Day, honoring all Americans who had served in all wars.

But the celebrations we have today do not do justice to the African Americans who have fought and died for America, in spite of the racism and segregated practices that have denied us full and equal treatment. Consider the following The Hall of Fame of African Americans who have served and in many instances, died for this country.

Crispus Attucks, son of a slave, first American casualty of the Revolutionary War. March 5, 1770; Nurse Susie King Taylor, who in the 1800s when it was illegal for African Americans to be educated, snuck in lessons at an underground school which she put with her passion to help others. She met and worked along side Clara Barton, founder of the Red Cross.
During the Civil War, Lewis Martin of the 29th U.S. Colored Infantry who lost a leg and an arm following the Battle of the Crater in July 1864; the Buffalo Soldiers, as the Colored Soldiers of the 10th Calvary became known, who fought both in the Civil War and the Indian Wars where they got the name ” Buffalo” from Native Americans; and Corporal Freddie Stowers who led the all-Black 371st Infantry Regiment in France in a successful battle against German troops and was recommended for the Medal of Honor which was not given to him until 70 years later awarded posthumously to his family. We also remember Corporal John T. Van Rensalier of the 350th HQ. Battalion who was awarded the French Legion of Honor in WWI; Doris “Dorie” Miller, a Mess Steward in the U.S. Navy, became the first African American to win the Navy Cross based on service at Pearl Harbor in WWII. Let us not forget African American women like Colonel Margaret Barley serving in WWI and fighting for integrated military housing when Blacks were still fighting and living in a segregated army. |

Let us remember Colonel Charles Young, the 3rd African American to graduate from West Point Military Academy and the first African American to reach the rank of “Colonel” in the U.S. Army; or the Tuskegee Airman, Colored fighter pilots who never lost a plane they were escorting during WWII and paved the way for more than 1.2 million African Americans to enter the service during and following that War.
We remember with pride our pioneering Black Generals like Benjamin Oliver Davis, Sr., U.S. Army and first African American to obtain that rank in the U.S. Army, and his son Benjamin Oliver Davis, Jr. ,U.S. Air Force as well as General Daniel “Chappy” James, fighter pilot U.S. Air Force; and General Colin Powell, City College of New York ROTC graduate who rose to become a four star general and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, twice, as well as the first African American Secretary of State under President George Bush.
Of the 3470 Medals of Honor given out since the beginning of this award, 89 have been given to African Americans and the first African American to receive one was William Carney on July 18, 1863.
So this Veterans Day, all African Americans have a very special and proud history to celebrate, recognizing that among those we honor and remember are our own countless “Band of Brothers and Sisters” that must not be forgotten in the first of Parades and Holiday Sales. “And still we rise.”

We are now accepting payments for 2027.
Thats right you can make a payment TODAY by going to the make a payment page. You can pay as little as $50.00 per adult and child to get your monthly payment plan started.
The exact amount of the registration fee will be determined when the events and the activities for The Family Reunion Cruise are selected. By the time the final registration fee is determined you will already have a nice dent in your total cost.
If you participated in the payment plan in the past you know you had more than a year to pay. If you start this November you would have had a full 17 months to pay your registration fee. This gives you plenty of time to fund your Family Reunion Trip.

Family Prayer Line!
“The Family that Prays together, Stays together.” The importance of prayer is affirmed throughout the Bible. As a family, we should be committed to praying for each other. Some family members have shown an interest in our family praying together. Several family Deacons and other family members have volunteered to lead us in Prayer. All family members are encouraged to call in and be a part of the Prayer Line.
Anyone desiring prayer for a loved one who is ill, facing surgery, hospitalized, or in a Nursing Home, can request prayer on the Family Prayer Line. The Prayer Line can also be used to lift family members up who are experiencing special events in their lives such as couples getting married, celebrating wedding anniversaries, celebrating births of children and other special occasions. Family Deacons will be available to pray with you whenever individual or family needs occur. The Deacons will take turns being on call each month so you will always be able to reach someone to pray with you and for you.
We will have our Family Prayer Line Call every 4th Sunday at 8 P.M. every month. Please contact us to get the Family Prayer Line Number and Access Codes.

The Family's Who's Who Book
The first edition was published and distributed at The 1st Reconnection Family Reunion in Virginia Beach in 2008. Henry Austin, Sr. is the author of this priceless book of our family history.
We would love to update our family book for the 2018 Reunion to celebrate 10 years of Biennial Reunions. In order to accomplish this task we need the full cooperation of all family members.
